SANTA ANA (CNS) - A 32-year-old woman was charged today with fatally stabbing her husband in Santa Ana during a dispute that prompted the couple's children to flee to a relative's home nearby.
Michelle Gutierrez, who was being held on $1 million bail, was charged with murder with a sentencing enhancement for the personal use of a deadly weapon.
The full name of the victim was not immediately available. Orange County Sheriff's-Coroner's officials said the victim's family has not yet been informed of the killing, which occurred last Thursday.
On the criminal complaint, the victim was identified only as Cesar R.
Police were called to the 1000 block of West Bishop Street about 9:30 a.m. Thursday regarding a domestic disturbance call, said Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna.
Gutierrez, who was outside, had serious knife wounds to her upper chest area, Bertagna said. She was taken to an area hospital, he added.
Police found the body of the victim in the house, Bertagna said.
Investigators suspect it was a failed murder-suicide attempt, Bertagna said.
The couple's two children, aged 9 and 10, ran to a relative's home up the street during the dispute, Bertagna said.
