Goat and Dog Mayors Raise Funds for Vermont Playground

A goat and dog, who were each elected mayor of a Vermont town, have helped raise money to renovate a local playground.

In 2018, Fair Haven residents elected Lincoln the goat as its honorary mayor.

Town Manager Joe Gunter said that the idea to have pet mayors was a way to raise the $100,000 needed for the new playground.

Lincoln helped raise about $10,000 while the current mayor, Murfee, a Cavalier King Charles spaniel, has raised about $20,000.

Murfee's owner, Linda Barker, has made masks to sell and has raised more than $5,000 from those sales as well as a similar amount from raffles.

The town was recently awarded a $50,000 grant from the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund and chipped in $20,000 meeting their goal.
