Police are looking for your help to find a man who shot his former girlfriend to death in the presence of their young child.
The incident, captured on home surveillance video, happened Wednesday morning just outside a home in Pacoima. LAPD responded to reports of a shooting in the 9000 block of Bartee Avenue around 9:35am. They found 35-year-old Karen Ruiz dead at the scene; the victim of multiple gunshot wounds.
According to police, Ruiz’s former boyfriend, identified as 46-year-old Herbert Nixon Flores, shot her in front of their 3-year-old child.
The footage captured on Nest video shows a woman apparently getting something out of a car in the home’s driveway. A man pulls up behind the vehicle. As the victim saw him, she began to run toward the house screaming for help. The man is clearly shown leaving his vehicle, charging toward the woman while firing several shots at her.
The 3-year-old was not injured during the violent encounter and is now safe with family members.
LAPD Detective Sharon Kim detailed a violent relationship where several reports were made against him in the past. Ruiz recently took out a restraining order against him.
Flores, a MS-13 gang member, is a Hispanic male with black hair, brown eyes, 6 feet 1-inch-tall weighing approximately 220 pounds.
