LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The Los Angeles Department of Animal Services announced today that an anonymous donor pledged $25,000 to match donations to the Spay and Neuter Trust Fund.
“This matching grant towards mobile spay and neuter clinics help ensure that we are able to provide spay-and-neuter surgeries to pets in underserved communities,'' said Brenda Barnette, General Manager for LA Animal Services.
Los Angeles law requires all dogs and cats to be neutered or spayed after they reach four months of age, officials said. The benefits of spaying and neutering include:
-- preventing unwanted litters;
-- lowering the risk of certain cancers and diseases;
-- decreasing animals' roaming, which can lead to being hit by a car or running away;
-- reducing male animal behavior of marking objects with urine;
-- removing heat cycles from female animals; and
-- reducing aggressive behavior, such as fighting and biting.
