GLENDALE (CNS) - A parolee who allegedly struck a bicyclist with a car that had been taken from a driveway and then crashed the vehicle into two parked cars in Glendale is set to be arraigned today on assault with a deadly weapon and other charges.
Sean Slade, 27, of Los Angeles is charged with one felony count each of assault with a deadly weapon -- an automobile, hit-and-run driving resulting in injury to another person and driving or taking a vehicle without consent, along with a misdemeanor count of hit-and-run driving resulting in property damage, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.
He is also facing allegations that he committed the crime while he was on parole and inflicted great bodily injury.
The chain of events started about 7 a.m. Dec. 18 when a victim reported leaving a car running in their driveway in the 400 block of West Lexington Drive only to find it was stolen when they came out, said Glendale police Sgt. Christian Hauptmann.
“While the officer was still on scene, the Glendale Police Department received a report of a hit-and-run traffic collision on the 2100 block of Camino San Rafael where a bicyclist had been struck by a vehicle,'' Hauptmann said.
The bicyclist suffered multiple injuries that were not life-threatening and was taken by paramedics to a hospital for treatment, the sergeant said.
“As officers were responding to this collision, the Glendale Police Department received another report that a vehicle had collided into two parked vehicles in the driveway of a residence on the 2500 block of Flintridge Drive and the driver had fled the scene on foot,'' the sergeant said.
Officers determined the vehicle in the driveway was the same car that was stolen and involved in the hit-and-run, Hauptmann said.
A witness described the man who fled on foot and located Slade in the area, he said. Slade was subsequently taken into custody by Glendale police and has remained jailed since then in lieu of $60,000 bail, jail records show.
