Another coronavirus vaccine has completed its clinical trials and will now seek early approval!
AstraZeneca announced Monday that its vaccine developed with Oxford University was "highly effective" with no hospitalizations or severe illnesses for any test patients. The vaccine was 90% effective using a regimen with a half dose, followed by a full dose one month later. Overall effectiveness across all testing was 70%.
“I think these are really exciting results,” Dr. Andrew Pollard, chief investigator for the trial said. “Because the vaccine can be stored at fridge temperatures, it can be distributed around the world using the normal immunization distribution system. And so our goal … to make sure that we have a vaccine that was accessible everywhere, I think we’ve actually managed to do that.”
Two other companies, Pfizer and Moderna, have also completed clinical tests for their vaccines and are seeking emergency approval from the FDA.
