LAKEWOOD (CNS) - Sheriff's Special Enforcement Bureau deputies used tear gas to end a nearly eight-hour standoff and take a barricaded suspect in Lakewood into custody.
The barricaded man was arrested about 6:30 p.m., according to Deputy Wally Bracks of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. He was not injured in the takedown, she added.
The incident in the 5400 block of Spahn Avenue began around 10:50 a.m., Bracks said.
A crisis negotiation team with the department's SEB tried to make contact with the suspect during the standoff, Bracks said. Surrounding homes were evacuated for safety, she said.
There was no word from the department on what initiated the standoff or what the man was wanted for.
