After 43 years the iconic Jerry's Deli in Studio City located on Ventura Blvd is closing tomorrow October 30th.
Jerry's was the place to hang in the Valley, a staple of the community. The plate of pickles, Matzo Ball soup, bakery, extensive menu and access to the bowling alley. Let's not forget the celebrity-spotting, the cast of Seinfeld were regulars, Adam Sandler and comedian Andy Kaufman used to bus tables there at the height of his career, while still on the hit TV show Taxi.
The New York-style deli, started as a 1973 a expansion of Solley’s Delicatessen. It was later purchased by Jerry’s Famous Deli Inc.
Jerry's Deli posted on their Instagram account today -
"It is with great sadness that we will be closing our doors for the foreseeable future. but it is with great hope that we will be back to serve you when we reach the finish line of this pandemic."
The National Restaurant Association estimates that in the last 7 months due to the Covid shutdown that the industry has lost $200 billion in revenue across the country.
So many restaurants changed their model to stay-at-home orders, but as this shutdown lasts, they are finding it just isn't enough.
In the last 7 years, Jerry's has had to shutdown several of their other locations like; Beverly Blvd. spot, Costa Mesa, Marina del Rey and Woodland Hills.
