LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped four-tenths of a cent today to $3.174, its fourth slight decrease in five days.
The average price has dropped eight-tenths of a cent over the past five days, including two-tenths of a cent on Monday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It is 1 cent less than one week ago, 3.3 cents lower than one month ago and 91.1 cents cheaper than one year ago.
The average price has decreased 44.1 cents since the start of the year.
The Orange County average price dropped one-tenth of a cent to $3.137, one day after decreasing four-tenths of a cent. It is 1.2 cents less than one week ago, 3.4 cents lower than one month ago and 90.3 cents cheaper than one year ago. It has decreased 40.8 cents since the start of the year.
Stations can begin selling winter blend gasoline, which is cheaper to produce, on Sunday, “but it may take a little longer for it to start being sold if gas stations still have a lot of summer blend supply,'' said Marie Montgomery, a public relations specialist with the Automobile Club of Southern California.
“Once most stations start selling winter blend, we would expect to see gas prices start falling more quickly,'' Montgomery told City News Service.
