Police ID Kidnapping Suspect Who Led Officers On Chase in Glendale

GLENDALE (CNS) - Authorities today released the name of a kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon suspect who was shot with a stun gun and taken into custody after a pursuit in Glendale.

Officers were dispatched at about 5:15 p.m. Wednesday to Harvard Street and Chevy Chase Drive, according to Sgt. Christian Hauptmann of the Glendale Police Department.

A woman had called 911 from that location, and “dispatchers could hear an active struggle going on between a male and a female before the phone disconnected,'' Hauptmann said.

Immediately after, police received a call from a second person who reported that a man was beating up a woman at the same location, according to Hauptmann.

The woman then called 911 again and could be heard “screaming hysterically,'' Hauptmann said.

Officers arrived on scene within a minute of the first call and attempted to make contact with the suspect, 28-year-old Saul Trujillo of Santa Clarita, who was leaning into a vehicle that had a woman seated in the front passenger seat, according to Hauptmann.

When officers tried to contact him, Trujillo got in the vehicle and fled with the woman still inside, Hauptmann said. While fleeing, Trujillo allegedly rammed a marked Glendale Police patrol vehicle.

Officers, who suspected that the woman was kidnapped, pursued the vehicle, which struck several occupied and unoccupied vehicles, Hauptmann said.

The chase ended when the suspect vehicle became disabled after striking a parked vehicle at Glendale Avenue and Broadway, according to Hauptmann.

Officers attempted to make contact with Trujillo and the female passenger, but Trujillo allegedly became combative and was unresponsive to commands before officers fired a stun gun and took him into custody.

Trujillo was booked for kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon on officers, felony assault on the female victim and a parole violation, according Hauptmann.

The victim did not need to be taken to a hospital, and officers took her home after Trujillo was arrested, Hauptmann said.
