SEAL BEACH (CNS) - A 26-year-old Montclair man was arrested by Seal Beach detectives in Montclair after a road rage incident involving his alleged brandishing of a firearm, a police spokesman said today.
The alleged road rage incident happened about 11 a.m. Friday in the area of Seal Beach Boulevard and Westminster Avenue, Seal Beach police Sgt. Nick Nicholas said.
Police responded to the location but the suspect later identified as Edward Welborn had already fled the scene, Nicholas said. Seal Beach police then located him about 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Montclair. With assistance from Montclair police, Welborn was stopped as he drove away from his home and taken into custody.
Details of the road rage incident were not released by police.
A BB gun that looked similar to a semi-automatic handgun was taken into evidence, Nicholas said. The gun matched the description of the one witnesses gave police. "I would like to thank the Montclair Police Department for their assistance and professionalism in safely apprehending the suspect without incident," Seal Beach Chief of Police Philip Gonshak said.
Welborn is being held in the Orange County jail. His bail has been set at $50,000, according to jail records.
Anyone who has information on this road rage incident was asked to call Seal Beach police Detective Chris Fisher at 562-799-4100, ext. 1110.
