LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Christopher Nolan's "Tenet'' continued to lead the North American box office in its fifth weekend of release, taking in $3.4 million Friday through Sunday for a cumulative total of $41.2 million, according to industry estimates released today.
The thriller starring John David Washington -- the first major international Hollywood release since theaters shut down in March due to the coronavirus pandemic -- has also grossed $283 million worldwide, the industry tracking group Comscore reported.
"The New Mutants'' grossed $1.1 million in its fifth weekend at theaters in the United States and Canada to claim second place.
It was followed by "Unhinged,'' a thriller starring Russell Crowe, which grossed $1 million in its seventh week for a total of $17.1 million.
The 40th anniversary re-release of"Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back'' was in fourth place with $908,000, followed by the thriller "Infidel,'' starring Jim Caviezel, which made $745,000 in its second weekend in theaters.
Rounding out the top 10 domestic releases, as estimated by Comscore, were "The Broken Hearts Gallery'' with $470,000, "The Last Shift'' with $235,000, "Kajillionaire'' with $215,000, "The Spongebob Movie: Sponge On The Run'' with $140,000, and "Words on Bathroom Walls'' with $77,950.
Movie theaters in Los Angeles County remain closed indefinitely, but Orange County has reopened its theaters with limited capacity.
