COMMERCE (CNS) - Two men were arrested and a woman was wounded in a deputy-involved-shooting in Commerce, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
The incident that led to the DIS took place just after 5 p.m. Thursday in the 5600 block of Washington Boulevard, Deputy James Nagao said.
According to the LASD, deputies from the East L.A. station responded to the intersection of Slauson and Eastern avenues after a 911 call about a man with a gun, Nagao said. Deputies then began a search for a vehicle that matched the description given by the 911 caller.
About 15 minutes later deputies located the vehicle near Commerce Way and Washington Boulevard, Nagao said. Deputies then conducted a traffic stop and the vehicle pulled over. Two men then jumped out of the vehicle and ran down a nearby alley. As one of the suspects was running away, he allegedly turned and began firing at the deputies.
Deputies then fired back, Nagao said. A woman who was in the vehicle was shot and wounded in the shoulder by one of the rounds. Nagao said it's unclear if the woman was wounded by the deputies or one of the suspects. The woman was treated at the scene and transported to a hospital by paramedics. She was last reported in stable condition.
The two men who fled the car were arrested and a gun was recovered at the scene, Nagao said. Their names and charges were not immediately released.
An investigation into the DIS was underway by the sheriff's homicide bureau, the sheriff's internal affairs division, the office of the Inspector General and the L.A. County District Attorney's shooting team.
