LAKEWOOD (CNS) - The city of Lakewood is launching a drive-in movie series tonight at the Lakewood Center mall, with a sold-out showing of “Frozen II.”
The series – “Drive-In Movies at the Mall” -- is set to include 8 p.m. showings of “A League of Their Own” on Aug. 29, “Toy Story 4” on Sept. 5 and “The Princess Bride” on Sept. 19 on a giant outdoor movie screen on the Del Amo Boulevard side of the mall.
“I was a big fan of this idea and I'm really glad it's come to fruition,” Lakewood Mayor Todd Rogers said in a video address to the city's residents. “We've got some fun, family-friendly shows lined up so we encourage you to bring the whole family.”
The mayor noted that there will be “some COVID safety rules to follow.”
No lawn chairs, blankets or seats will be allowed to be set up outside a vehicle, but movie-goers can sit in truck beds or convertible cars with the tops down if they wear their protective masks. People will also be asked to wear protective masks when leaving their cars for any reason, including using the restroom.
The fee for Lakewood residents is $10 per car, with a $15 fee per car for non-residents.
Registration for city residents opens one week in advance of the screenings through www.lakewoodcity.org/ecatalog or by phone at 562-866-9771, extension 2408. Non-residents can register beginning Aug. 25, Sept. 1 and Sept. 15.
Each vehicle will receive a free goody bag provided by the Rotary Club of Lakewood.
