LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County rose two-tenths of a cent today for the second consecutive day to $3.206, its highest amount since March 25.
The average price has risen six consecutive days, increasing 1.9 cents, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. The increases follow a five-day stretch when the average price was unchanged three times and dropped one-tenth of a cent on back-to-back days.
The average price is 1.9 cents more than a week ago and 7.2 cents higher than one month ago but 38.8 cents less than one year ago. It has decreased 40.9 cents since the start of the year.
The Orange County average price rose three-tenths of a cent for the second consecutive day to $3.192, its highest amount since March 24. It is 2 cents more than a week ago and 7.8 cents higher than one month ago but 37.7 cents less than one year ago. It has decreased 35.3 cents since the start of the year.
“Gas prices are staying in the same narrow band'' despite an unplanned flaring event at the Phillips refinery in Wilmington, “which usually indicates a production issue,'' Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California's corporate communications manager, told City News Service.
“This indicates that there is more than sufficient stock to supply the market.''
