Don't be alarmed, but it's possible that COVID-19 can be transmitted through chicken wings... At least that's according to the Chinese government...
Officials in Shenzhen, China say that frozen chicken wings imported from Brazil have recently tested positive for the coronavirus. However, they did not name the brand of chicken wings.
"It is not yet clear when the packaging was contaminated, and whether it occurred during the export transportation process," the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA) said in a statement.
While further wing samples tested negative, just to be on the safe side, officials sealed off all the imported wings and disinfected the storage area. But luckily, it doesn't appear that anyone who came in contact with the wings has tested positive for far.
According to the World Health Organization, it is "highly unlikely that people can contract COVID-19 from food or food packaging."
"There is no evidence to date of viruses that cause respiratory illnesses being transmitted via food or food packaging. Coronaviruses cannot multiply in food; they need an animal or human host to multiply," the WHO added.
