Arraignment Postponed for 29-Year-Old Accused in Ladera Heights Shooting

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A 29-year-old ex-con charged with fatally shooting a man outside a house party in Ladera Heights was scheduled to make his initial court appearance today, but his arraignment was postponed to Thursday.

Tylon Deshawn Geoffrey White, 29, of Compton, faces one felony count each of murder and possession of a firearm by a felon, along with gang allegations in the shooting death of 25-year-old Jakeil Reynolds.

On July 22, Reynolds, a youth sports coach and teaching assistant at a local school, was attending a party in the 5800 block of Holt Avenue, near Slauson Avenue, when an argument occurred and he left the house, according to Deputy James Nagao of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Around 11:30 p.m., Reynolds was confronted outside by the suspect and the pair began fighting, Nagao said. White allegedly drew a weapon and shot Reynolds multiple times. He died at the scene.

White, who was charged with murder five days later, faces a possible maximum sentence of 40 years to life in state prison if convicted as charged. Bail is set at more than $4.04 million, according to jail records.
