Fauci Says His Family Has Received Death Threats Over COVID-19 Comments

COVID-19 may never go away completely, but the U.S. can get it under control... That's the latest message from the country's top infectious diseases specialist, Dr. Anthony Fauci.

In a new interview with CNN, Dr. Fauci said the "highly transmissible" virus isn't likely to be eradicated from the planet. That goes directly against President Trump's statement on Wednesday that the virus will go away. There are currently 4.7 million cases of COVID-19 across the country and almost 159,000 deaths.

Fauci continues reiterating that a vaccine plus masks, hand washing, and social distancing can work, but says the U.S. is still missing a "cohesive" plan of action. He also revealed that he and his family have received numerous death threats from people who don't like what he has to say...

"The unseemingly things that crises bring out in the world, it brings out the best of people and the worst of people," Facui said Wednesday. "And getting death threats to my family and harassing my daughters to the point where I have to get security — it’s amazing."

Fauci, who says his family has been protected by a security team since April, blames "a degree of anti-science feeling in this country" for the threats.

"I wouldn’t have imagined in my wildest dreams that people who object to things that are pure public health principles are so set against it that they actually threaten you," he said. "I mean, that, to me, is just strange."
