**TO SEE MORE FEATURED 'KFI PET OF THE DAY' CLICK HERE**KFI is helping bring awareness to NBC4's #ClearTheShelters event thoughout August by featuring a Pet Of The Day for the entire month!

Meet Yoshi, who is currently at the Burbank Animal Shelter, one of many local shelters participating in NBC4's #ClearTheShelters event. His intake number is A055883.

Yoshi is in a foster home right now, but you can contact the shelter at 818-238-3340 about him or click here.

He's a neutered male, white Shih Tzu mix believed to be about 9 years old.

His foster says Yoshi should be in a quiet, adult home with no small children saying:

"Yoshi is a spirited soul trapped in a 9-year-old's body. Yoshi loves to snuggle more than anything else in the world. Yoshi had a traumatic experience with his previous owner and lost all his hair. However, with some much deserved TLC, he is back to full health"

According to his foster, he will bark at other dogs on walks, but is friendly with dogs that he gets to know. Unsure about how he would react to cats. He does bark at strangers, but will stop with a stern 'No.' He has a very difficult time with stairs and may need to be carried up and down them. Due to his age, he tires easily, he's used to three short walks a day. He wheezes and snores really loud. He is housebroken but may have an occasional accident. He is crate trained, but please do not use the crate as punishment, his crate is a safe place for Yoshi.

He likes: Cucumbers, salmon, any type of meat jerky, eggs, carrots.

He dislikes: stairs, long walks, car backfires and firecrackers

NOTE!!! Yoshi growls when he plays, when he is agitated, or when he is excited. I don't know why. He just does. He sometimes growls when putting on his vest even though he is super excited. When he plays, he growls and barks while wagging his tail. As you get to know Yoshi, you will be able to differentiate the types of growls.

Last year, NBC4 and Telemundo 52's #ClearTheShelters event helped to find forever homes for 17,000 pets just in Southern California. This helped to ease the pressure on more than 100 overcrowded shelters and rescue groups to enable them to continue their amazing work.

Since 2015, this event has found homes for more than 410,000 pets nationwide! And this year's event is here and runs the entire month of August, so there's plenty of time for you to find your new best friend.

But maybe you're asking, 'How are we able to do this in the age of Covid?'

Well, since shelters and rescues are following safety protocols, most are not allowing in person visits or are are requiring appointments in advance to come in and view pets. BUT, before you get that far, you can start looking and check out which shelters are participating right on the NBC4 site with their virtual map. Just plug in your zip code and the participating shelters near you will show up. They've also partnered with the WeResue app and 24PetWatch which enables you to search adoptable pets, connect with local shelters and submit adoption applications online right from your computer or phone.

NBC4 President and General Manager Steve Carlston says:

“This year presents an increased demand on local animal shelters and families seeking pet companions. NBC4 is committed more than ever to offer the community support and find forever homes for thousands of pets.”

Celia Chavez, President and General Manager at Telemundo 52 said:

“Through the power of technology and to maintain safe social distancing practices, we are proud to bring back the campaign for the sixth year and offer families the opportunity to find their pet and navigate the adoption process with a participating shelter virtually.”

If you can not adopt right now, you can also help by being a foster parent or by donating to the effort to #ClearTheShelters.
