Police Search for Suspect Who Fired at Officers

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Detectives were searching for a car burglary suspect who allegedly fired a shot at officers during a foot pursuit today in the Vermont Square area of Los Angeles.

At about 5:20 a.m., officers spotted a man at Vernon and La Salle avenues suspected of burglarizing a motor vehicle, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The man began grabbing his front waist band when he saw officers getting out of their patrol car, officials said.

“Officers went in foot pursuit of the suspect, who began discarding items of property and turned in the direction of the officers, at which time officers heard a shot fired as the suspect continued to run,” the statement read.

The officers called for help and set up a perimeter in hopes of locating the suspect, described as Hispanic, 25-30 years-old, with a shaved head, wearing a red backpack, officials said.

The suspect was not located within the perimeter and LAPD Robbery-Homicide detectives assumed responsibility for the continuing investigation, officials said.

Anyone with information was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477) or go to lacrimestoppers.org.
