Muncy Homers Twice in Dodgers to 9-1 Victory Over Giants

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Max Muncy hit two solo homers and Ross Stripling pitched a four-hitter over seven innings as the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the San Francisco Giants, 9-1, tonight at Dodger Stadium.

Justin Turner and Will Smith also drove in two runs as the Dodgers began a season with back-to-back victories for the first time since 2016 won they won their first three games.

The Dodgers out-hit the Giants 13-4, as Corey Seager went 3-for-3 with a double and Muncy went 3-for-4 while Turner and Chris Taylor both had two hits.

The Dodgers scored in every inning they batted except the third.

Muncy homered in the first and sixth innings in the fifth multi-homer game of his major league career.

Turner singled in Joc Pederson, who singled, in the second, and doubled in Muncy, who doubled, in the fourth.

Seager singled leading off the fifth. Taylor followed with an infield single with Seager advancing to third on a throwing error by San Francisco third baseman Wilmer Flores. After Pederson lined out, Seager scored on Smith's sacrifice fly.

Kike Hernandez singled leading off the seventh and scored from third when second baseman Mauricio Dubon was charged with a missed catch error on a throw from catcher Rob Brantly as Pederson stole second.

Pederson, who walked with two outs, went to third on the error and scored on Mookie Betts' single.

Taylor had an RBI single in the eighth and Smith walked with the bases loaded later in the inning.

Jaylin Davis homered in the third off Stripling for the Giants' run.

Stripling (1-0) struck out seven and did not walk a batter. He was expected to be a reliever this season but is replacing David Price in the starting rotation after Price opted out of playing this season due to the coronavirus pandemic, tweeting on July 4 it was "in the best interest of my health and my family's health for me to not play this season.''

Left-hander Tyler Anderson (0-1), the first of five San Francisco pitchers, was charged with the loss, allowing two runs and three hits in 1 2/3 innings, walking three. He has lost four consecutive decisions dating back to last season.

Flores had two hits for the Giants, who lost to the Dodgers 8-1 Thursday in the season openers for both teams. San Francisco has lost six consecutive games to the Dodgers dating back to Sept. 8, 2019, and were outscored 40-4 in the process.
