President Trump Wants to Give Parents Money if Public Schools Stay Closed

As teachers and school administrators try to figure out what the upcoming school year will look like, President Trump is making a big push for parents.

In a news conference at the White House, the president said he wants $105 billion for schools in the next stimulus bill.

However, if a public school is closed, he wants the funding to go directly to parents to pay for homeschooling or private school.

"If the school is closed, the money should follow the student so the parents and families are in control of their own decisions. So we'd like the money to go to the parents of the student. This way they can make the decision that's best for them."

The proposed bill would also include funding for coronavirus tests and a second round of stimulus checks.
