The Los Angeles Dodgers and outfielder Mookie Betts have made a long-term deal worth some major money.
Betts, who was traded to the Dodgers during the off-season, was reportedly offered a 13-year deal (including 2020) worth more than $380 million. The 27-year-old was scheduled to become a free agent after the 2020 season, which, thanks to the coronavirus pandemic was shortened to 60 games. That had Red Sox fans hoping their franchise might be able to lure Betts back to their team with a mega-deal of their own. According to WEEI's Lou Merloni, in January, the Red Sox reportedly offered Betts a 10-year, $300 million deal. Betts reportedly countered with 12 years and $420 million.
Betts, who is a four-time All-Star, won the AL MVP in 2018.
The Dodgers traded shortstop Jeter Downs, outfielder Alex Verdugo, and catcher Connor Wong in exchange for Betts during the off-season.
