ICE: Foreign Students Whose Schools go Online Will Have to Leave the US

The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement has announced that foreign students whose schools go online will have to change colleges or leave the country.

The new guidelines, comes after multiple universities, including Harvard and the University of Southern California, have already switched to online platforms to help curb the spread of the coronavirus.

According to the new guidelines, foreign students who are enrolled at those schools must "depart the country or take other measures, such as transferring to a school with in-person instruction."

Terry Hartle, senior vice president of the American Council on Education, says this is a ploy to force US colleges and universities to revert to in-person classes.

"ICE is clearly creating an incentive for institutions to reopen, regardless of whether or not the circumstances of the pandemic warrant it."
