Gov. Newsom Issues New Statewide Face Mask Order

With coronavirus cases continuing to rise, Governor Gavin Newsom has just ordered that all California residents (ages two and up), must wear face coverings in almost all public spaces. The order requires everyone to wear a face mask in most indoor settings, as well as in outdoor areas where social distancing is considered 'not feasible'.

"Science shows that face coverings and masks work," Newsom said. "They are critical to keeping those who are around you safe, keeping businesses open and restarting our economy."

The state of California saw a record high of 4,084 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, just one month after relaxing state regulations on reopening.

When asked why he decided to issue the statewide order this week, Gov. Newsom responded:

"Simply put, we are seeing too many people with faces uncovered - putting at risk the real progress we have made in fighting the disease. California's strategy to restart the economy and get people back to work will only be successful if people act safely and follow health recommendations."
