SAN FERNANDO (CNS) - A Chatsworth man who killed two peacocks by running them over with his pickup truck was sentenced to three years probation and must complete 48 animal abuse counseling sessions, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced today.
Floyd Michael Belton, who pleaded no contest to two misdemeanor animal cruelty charges, was also sentenced Tuesday to one day already served injail and banned from owning or possessing any animals, with the exception of his German shepherd dog, for 10 years.
He was additionally ordered to make a $1,000 donation to the Pasadena Humane Society and to do 45 days of Caltrans service or make an additional $3,600 donation, according to the District Attorney's Office.
Belton, 61, was charged last year with two felony counts of animal cruelty for running over the two peacocks with his Ford F-150 pickup truck on July 25, 2019, but the charges were reduced to misdemeanors with his plea.
He was arrested last Aug. 13 by Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies and released later that evening after an $80,000 bond was posted.
