Pacific Gas & Electric has pleaded guilty in the deaths of 84 people who died in a northern California wildfire set off by the company's power lines in 2018.
On Tuesday, PG&E entered a guilty plea to 84 counts of involuntary manslaughter, and will now have to pay more than $19 million in fines and compensation for the fire that broke out on November 8, 2018. The company has already paid out more than $25 billion in wildfire settlements since 2015...
PG&E Chief Executive Officer Bill Johnson entered the plea in Butte County Superior Court on Tuesday.
“I am here today on behalf of the 23,000 men and women of PG&E, to accept responsibility for the fire here that took so many lives and changed these communities forever,” he said in a written statement.
In addition to those 84 deaths in 2018, last year's 'Camp Fire' also destroyed over 18,000 buildings, and most of the town of Paradise.
