Someone finally found it! Says the man who sparked a real-life treasure hunt in the Rocky Mountains. A treasure chest holding a million dollars' worth of gold and jewels has been found buried in the Rocky Mountains.
No, this isn't a movie plot - it's the brainchild of eccentric art collector Forrest Fenn, who hid the chest 10 years ago and published a series of clues in a poem.
Back in 2010, New Mexico art collector Forrest Fenn buried a chest filled with gold nuggets, coins, jewels and other artifacts. The New York Times reports an anonymous finder found the chest a few days ago, announced the now 89-year-old, with the help of one of his poems.
Meant by Fenn as a way for families to get out off the couch, tens of thousands tried and two people died searching with the help of his 24 clues. Police in 2017 even urged him to call it all off.
“It was under a canopy of stars in the lush, forested vegetation of the Rocky Mountains and had not moved from the spot where I hid it more than 10 years ago,” Fenn said in a statement on his website Sunday that still did not reveal the exact location. “I do not know the person who found it, but the poem in my book led him to the precise spot.”
As for how he feels now, Fenn said "I feel halfway kind of glad, halfway kind of sad because the chase is over".
“I congratulate the thousands of people who participated in the search and hope they will continue to be drawn by the promise of other discoveries,” he said on his website.
