As protests continue across the country, many are wondering if, and when, we'll see a spike in coronavirus cases.
But remember when we saw videos of the crazy parties with hundreds of people over Memorial Day weekend? Good news! Missouri's top health official recently announced that no new COVID-19 cases have been reported from the infamous pool parties that took place at Lake of the Ozarks over the holiday weekend.
Video of packed crowds at local pools and bars went viral last week, and at least one attendee reported getting sick that weekend. But Missouri Department of Health Director Dr. Randall Williams says no further cases have been reported since.
“We don’t know what will happen to these numbers after we see the results of lots of people being together in very large groups during the demonstrations and protests. Some folks were wearing masks, some folks weren’t. But certainly, folks were not social distancing,” St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson said. “So we’ll see — fingers crossed — let’s hope that doesn’t result in a big bump up.”
Missouri has seen about 13,800 total cases, and 786 deaths during the pandemic. As far as the rest of the country goes, we'll have to wait and see what happens after all of the protests.
