Minneapolis Public Schools Vote to Terminate Contract with City's Police

The Minneapolis School Board has voted unanimously to end its contract with the city's police department over the death of George Floyd.

The department and schools worked together for decades through their School Resource Officer program.

School board chairwoman Kim Ellison told The Star-Tribune

"I value people, education and life. Now I'm convinced, based on the actions of the Minneapolis PD, that we don't share those same values."

In a statement, MPD Deputy Chief Erick Fors said they will continue to work with the distrcit on security and safety issues.

“The relationships that were built were impactful not only for the students and staff, but for the officers who had a calling to work with our youth through mentorship and engagement.”
