Protests are continuing in Los Angeles over George Floyd's death at the hands of police officers in Minneapolis last week. And the LAPD's Hollywood Division has set a new record amid those protests -- although it's unclear whether that's a good, or a bad thing...
LAPD officers in Hollywood took at least 585 people into custody Monday, setting an all-time high for single-day arrests. While about 20 of the arrests were for looting, most were for curfew violations, police say. Officers also impounded 50 vehicles, according to a report from LAPD. But police spokesman Josh Rubenstein says the people taken into custody in Hollywood make up only a fraction of the city's total arrests.
According to LAPD Chief Michel Moore, approximately 2,500 people were taken into custody between Friday and Tuesday morning in Los Angeles county.
“Each day has seen the continuation of peaceful protests, but we have seen instances of burglaries and looting of businesses in various parts of the city,” LAPD Chief Michel Moore said. “For the first time in decades, every sworn member of the Los Angeles Police Department is working. Days off have been canceled.”
Tuesdays curfew in Los Angeles county will be in effect from 6 p.m. until 6 a.m. Wednesday.
