Good news true believers - while this year's Comic Con International isn't happening this year in downtown San Diego, fans will have the chance to gather together online.
Organizers for the massively popular pop culture event are planning an alternate version of the massive expo - cosplay and all - by hosting a digital online gathering for fans that will be known as "Comic-Con @Home."
All the headaches of trying to get tickets or lining up for panels will not be a problem for this year's online gathering. Organizers promised free parking, comfy chairs, personalized snacks, no lines in a video posted online about the online event.
A fansite for San Diego Comic-Con International posted a few tidbits on what fans could expect at the online event this year, which includes an online "Artist's Alley" where works by artists from all over the world can be viewed that are normally found in the massive exhibition hall during Comic-Con.
For now, few details about the event have been released, but organizers promised to keep fans updated on their website.
For now, fans can scratch their con itch by enjoying all sorts of content that the Comic-Con Museum has been posting online, including exclusive videos and its "Fun Book" series, which is a downloadable PDF that contains activity sheets for fans of all ages. Comic-Con organizers will also release a 2020 Souvenir Book as a downloadable PDF.
The San Diego Comic-Con was canceled last month for the first time in the event's history due to restrictions imposed by the coronavirus pandemic. Organizers said the decision was made in order to protect public health and safety.
“Extraordinary times require extraordinary measures and while we are saddened to take this action, we know it is the right decision,” said David Glanzer, spokesperson for San Diego Comic-Con. “We eagerly look forward to the time when we can all meet again and share in the community we all love and enjoy.”
“Continuous monitoring of health advisories and recent statements by the Governor of California have made it clear that it would not be safe to move forward with plans for this year,” the cancellation statement read.
Organizers are still planning to move forward with the event returning to the San Diego Convention Center next July.
