California Man Arrested 3 Times in 1 Day Under CA's Zero-Bail Policy

A man in California was arrested and released three times over the course of 12 hours on Wednesday, due to the state's zero-bail policy that was adopted in April amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dijon Landrum, 24, was first arrested Wednesday morning after officers responded to a call about a man attempting to break into a vehicle located in the city of Glendora. Officers said Landrum was allegedly attempting to drive away in the stolen vehicle. He was arrested, issued a citation, and later released, the Glendora Police Department said in a statement.

About an hour later, Landrum was caught allegedly stealing items out of people's front yards. Officers found Landrum at the scene in possession of the stolen items. Again, officers issued Landrum a citatation, recovered the property, and released him.

Later that night, Glendora police received a report of a stolen car out of a parking lot. Officers were able to track the car to the nearby city of La Puente. A pursuit by the Los Angeles County Sheriffs and the California Highway Patrol ensued.

Landrum was finally arrested in Pasadena for the alleged possession of a stolen vehicle and for evading officers.

Police issued the suspect a citation and released for the third time that day, police said.

California's zero-bail policy began in early April after the California's Judicial Council temporarily set bail to zero for most misdemeanors and low-level felonies in an effort to reduce jail populations statewide amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Glendora Police Department said they were acting in according with the policy when they released Landrum.
