Long Beach Offers Non-Vehicle Coronavirus Testing

LONG BEACH (CNS) - The city of Long Beach is adding non-vehicle-based testing at its three coronavirus testing sites to accommodate people who may not have access to a car for the standard drive-thru service.

Residents without a vehicle still must make an appointment. Appointments are available between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. daily. Information on appointments is available on the city's website.

“Testing is critical to tracking, controlling and preventing the spread of COVID-19,” Mayor Robert Garcia said. “By increasing testing capacity and accessibility, we are able to work smarter and take care of more people.”

Testing is generally limited to people showing symptoms of the coronavirus. Front-line workers such as first responders, government personnel, health care professionals and grocery workers are eligible for testing regardless of symptoms.

The city testing sites offering non-vehicle-based testing are located at:

-- Long Beach City College Pacific Coast Campus, 1305 Pacific Coast Highway, with the entrance at the parking lot near Orange Avenue;

-- Jordan High School, 6500 Atlantic Ave.; and

-- Cabrillo High School, 2001 Santa Fe Ave.

COVID-19 testing is also available at St. Mary Medical Center, 1050 Linden Ave.

The city plans to open two additional sites over the next week, one at the Long Beach City College Liberal Arts Campus and another in North Long Beach. Details on those sites will be announced when arrangements are finalized, city officials said.

According to the city, the two new sites will increase the city's testing capacity to more than 700 people per day, in addition to the roughly 250 people per day at St. Mary Medical Center.
