Today's #SmallBusinessShoutout features Palermo Italian Restaurant in Los Feliz! Palermo has been an L.A. staple for 45 years, but has been badly hurt by Coronavirus fallout. Michelle Fanara joined us this afternoon to discuss her family's history with the restaurant, and how her immigrant Sicilian dad worked his way up to starting his own business.
To help out Palermo, some retired LAPD officers set up a GoFundMe to help keep them afloat. Michelle says all of their menu items are available for pick up or delivery, but not having actual sit-down customers is having a big impact on the business.
In addition to her family owning Palermo, Michelle has her own small business too. She owns and operates Villari Marital Arts in Duate. She's had that business for close to 8 years, and has had to pivot to teaching classes on Zoom.
