Rolling Stones Drop New Song, Their First In 8 Years

Recently, during the One World: Together At Home concert, The Rolling Stones performed their classic, 'You Can't Always Get What You Want', on a split screen, from their various locations.

The group had been in the studio recording new music and preparing for their 2020 'No Filter' tour before the lockdown because of the coronavirus pandemic. While the tour has been postponed, the group decided to release a brand-new song, their first in eight years, to give fans a taste of things to come.

The song, "Living in a Ghost Town" was written over a year ago by Jagger and Keith Richards, but with the recent situation, they both felt that with a few changes, they could release it early and it would really resonate with people.

Rolling Stone says that Jagger told Zane Lowe of Apple Music:

“It wasn’t written for now, but it was just one of those odd things. It was written about being in a place which was full of life but is now bereft of life so to speak…I was just jamming on the guitar and wrote it really quickly in like 10 minutes. Keith Richards and I both had the idea that we should release it. But I said, ‘Well I’ve got to rewrite it.’ Some of it is not going to work and some of it was a bit weird and a bit too dark."

The band had been excited to tour this year, so they're frustrated that they have to wait, but Richards says the extra time alone has just led to a burst of creativity saying:

“We’ve got another five or six tracks and there’s a lot of sort of soul feel about it for some reason without anybody intending to. Obviously right now we’ve got nothing else to do but write some more songs, right?”
