Today's #SmallBusinessShoutout is a little bit different, we're highlighting the Old Town Newhall Farmers Market in Santa Clarita! They are still open for business every Saturday, rain or shine, from 8:30am-1:00pm.
We've added the market to our list of Small Business Shoutouts. Click here to see all of the businesses we've talked to and buy something to help them out!
The Old Town Newhall Market sells genuine farm-direct produce which is sold by the farmers or their employees. They also sell other products such as fresh fish, beef, pork, chicken, bread, baked goods and healthy snacks like hummus and yogurts. Their produce comes direct from the field to market, and is picked within days of being sold.
If you're having trouble at your local grocery stores, think about finding a farmers market in your area. The ones that are still open are all in compliance with social distancing rules. The Newhall market was deemed essential by L.A. County, and is in direct contact with farmers when more in-demand items are needed.
We spoke with Old Town Newhall Farmers Market manager Larry McClements, who talked about the importance of supporting local business and what it's like to run a farmers market during this strange time.
If you don't feel like going out to the market yourself, or you are unable to, Larry says you can call ahead with an order and they will have it ready for curbside pickup. The market is also making monthly produce donations to low income-seniors. Check out our interview with Larry below to learn more, and click here to find an L.A. County Certified Farmers Market near you!
