Number of Confirmed COVID-19 Cases Top 15,000 in L.A. County

The number of Los Angeles County's coronavirus cases stands at 15,140 today, with 633 deaths.

Dr. Barbara Ferrer, the head of the county's Department of Public Health reported Tuesday that the county had confirmed another 1,400 cases of COVID-19 in L.A. County and another 46 deaths. The high number of new cases is at least partly attributed to a reporting backlog thanks to delayed lab test results from at least 880 cases from over the weekend.

Dr. Ferrer also said that at least 43 cases have been confirmed at the Union Rescue Mission on Skid Row in downtown Los Angeles. The facility has been locked down and no new residents are being accepted at this time.

Health officials reiterated the importance for people to stay at home and avoid contact with others - especially those who are over 65+ and/or have health issues like lung disease, diabetes, moderate-severe asthma & heart disease.
