Another sporting event bites the dust!
Japan's Prime Minister announced today that the Tokyo 2020 Olympics have been postponed until a later date. There have been growing calls from different parts of the world for the games to be canceled or postponed. Quarantine guidelines from countries around the world have made it difficult for athletes to continue their normal training routine.
There is an agreement in place to play the games no later than the summer of 2021, with an exact date to be announced at a later time. Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is taking the coronavirus pandemic very seriously and wants all parties involved to be safe.
"Considering the current situation, in regards to the Tokyo Games, as the host nation, in order to ensure that athletes from all over the world are able to compete in their best condition, and also in order to ensure the utmost safety for the spectators, I have asked him to consider postponing the games by about a year.”
The Olympics are just the latest event to be affected by the virus to date, along with the likes of the NBA, NHL, MLB and AMA Awards.
