Wind Advisory Issued for L.A. County

LOS ANGELES (CNS) -- Strong winds will blow in portions of the Southland today, forecasters said.

A wind advisory issued by the National Weather Service will be in effect today from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. around the L.A. and Ventura County coasts, the NWS said in a statement.

In L.A. County, the advisory will apply to beach cities -- including Long Beach, Malibu and Santa Monica -- Beverly Hills, metropolitan Los Angeles, Downtown L.A. and the Hollywood Hills. West winds of 15 to 25 miles per hour are expected in that region, along with gusts of 35 mph, with the strongest winds expected along the coast.

“Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects and make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles,” according to the statement. “Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high-profile vehicle. Secure outdoor objects.”

The NWS forecast sunny weather in L.A. County today, along with highs of 44 degrees on Mount Wilson; 56 in Lancaster; 57 in Palmdale; 59 in Saugus; 60 in Avalon; 62 in Pasadena, San Gabriel, Burbank and Woodland Hills; 63 in Long Beach and at LAX; and 65 in Downtown L.A. Cloudy skies are expected Thursday, Friday and Saturday, followed by rain Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, all amid temperatures roughly similar to today's.

Sunny skies are also expected in Orange County, along with highs of 41 on Santiago Peak; 51 on Ortega Highway at 2,600 feet; 57 at Fremont Canyon; 59 at Trabuco Canyon and in Laguna Beach and San Clemente; 61 in Yorba Linda and Mission Viejo; 63 in Irvine and Anaheim; and 64 in Fullerton.
