Thousands Flock to Florida Beaches for Spring Break Despite CDC Guidelines

Are you practicing 'social distancing'?

Turns out THOUSANDS of people in Florida have decided to ignore the calls for self isolation amid the COVID-19 Coronavirus outbreak... All in the name of Spring Break.

Photos and videos posted to social media this week have shown large crowds of beach-goers partying and playing in the ocean at Clearwater Beach, West Florida.

Some of the visitors were surprised that the beaches were still open to the public, despite all of the other restrictions across the nation.

"I'm shocked the beaches aren't shut down. I mean we need something to do, other than sit inside, but I'm shocked the beaches aren't shut down," Chuck Smithson told WTSP.

Restaurants and bars in Florida have already been told not to serve more than 50 percent of their capacity.

According to Johns Hopkins University, there have been 160 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Florida so far, as well as five fatalities.
