LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Warm Santa Ana winds persisted across the Southland today, and temperatures will once again soar into the eighties.
In fact, some communities are expected to get even hotter than yesterday thanks to the warm offshore winds and a ridge of high pressure aloft.
On Wednesday, the high in Anaheim erased the previous record for Feb. 25 of 85, set in 2016. Other Orange County highs included 88 at John Wayne Airport, 86 at the Fullerton Airport, 85 in Santa Ana and Yorba Linda and 84 in Lake Forest, while in L.A. County, highs reached 83 in Burbank, downtown Los Angeles, Pomona and San Gabriel, 82 in Van Nuys, 81 in Hawthorne and Long Beach Airport and 80 in Redondo Beach and Woodland Hills.
The National Weather Service said hot gusty winds would last through today and issued a wind advisory shortly after 3:30 a.m.
The advisory will be in effect until 3 p.m. in the San Gabriel and Santa Monica mountains, the San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys, and the L.A. County coastal zone, which consists of the coast, beach cities, metropolitan Los Angeles, and the Hollywood Hills, amid warm Santa Ana winds of 15 to 30 miles per hour, with 50 mph gusts.
“Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects and make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles,” warned the NWS. “Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high-profile vehicle. Secure outdoor objects.”
The National Weather Service forecast sunny skies in L.A. County today and highs of 63 degrees on Mount Wilson; 68 in Palmdale; 69 in Lancaster; 72 in Avalon; 73 in Saugus; 78 in Burbank; 80 at LAX; 81 in Pasadena and Woodland Hills; 82 in Downtown L.A., Long Beach and San Gabriel. Thursday will be even warmer in some communities, including a high of 85 in Woodland Hills, but the weather will take a sharp turn Sunday, when a cold storm will generate rain and highs in the 50s and 60s.
Sunny skies also will prevail in Orange County today, along with highs of 58 on Santiago Peak; 67 on Ortega Highway at 2,600 feet; 73 in Laguna Beach; 74 in Newport Beach and San Clemente; 75 in Fremont Canyon; 78 in Trabuco Canyon; 79 in Yorba Linda; 81 in Mission Viejo; 82 in Fullerton and Anaheim; and 83 in Irvine. Highs will be up to eight degrees warmer Thursday. Sharply cooler temperatures are forecast for Sunday, but, as of early this morning, no rain.
