President Trump is in India right now, and during a press conference this morning, he got into it again with his longtime nemesis, CNN's Jim Acosta.
Trump and Acosta have had many combative moments over the last several years. At one point, Acosta's press pass was revoked and he was banned from the White House. But, his press credentials were restored after CNN argued that the White House violated both CNN and Acosta's First and Fifth Amendment rights. So the sparring began again.
This morning, Acosta asked a two-part question, which the president didn't seem to appreciate at all.
Acosta asked:
"Can you pledge to the American people that you will not accept any foreign assistance in the upcoming election? And on this idea of a purge in your administration, there was recently a departure of your acting DNI Joseph Maguire, and you replaced him with your ambassador to Germany Rick Grenell, some of your critics have pointed out that Ambassador Grenell has no intelligence experience, how can you justify to the american people having an acting DNI with no intelligence experience."
President Trump responded:
"First of all, I want no help from any country, and I haven't been given help from any country. If you see what CNN, your wonderful network said, I guess they apologized in a way. Didn't they apologize for the fact that they said certain things that weren't true? Tell me, what was their apology yesterday? What did they say?"
Acosta responded:
"My President, I think our record on delivering the truth is a lot better than yours sometimes."
The president fired back saying:
"Your record is so bad that you ought to be ashamed of yourself. You have probably the worst record in the history of broadcasting."
Trump then talked about Maguire and said that his time as Director of National Intelligence was ending on March 11th anyway, and that they are in the process of considering at least five candidates to replace him permanently and he expects to make a final decision on that in the next two weeks.
Acosta then asked if Maguire was 'forced out because he wasn't sufficiently loyal' to the president, to which the president responded, "No, not at all."
