A local math teacher from Mission Viejo was just awarded a $25,000 Milken Educator Award! Candice Harrington, a teacher at Capistrano Valley High School, was just one of 40 in the country to receive the award.

Students in Harrington's Advanced Placement AP Calculus AB class consistently achieve a 95 percent success rate, and students in all of her math courses show significant growth.
This all-school assembly at Capistrano Valley High School hosted an all-school assembly, which actually turned out to be a celebration for her award! Check out a video of the surprise below:
"I hope recognition like this shows young people that teaching can be very meaningful," Harrington said. "There's never a day when I wake up and don't want to go to work."
She is just the second Milken Educator Award winner from California this year.
Harrington earned a bachelor’s in mathematics from California State, Fullerton in 2005 and a master’s in education from Concordia University, Irvine in 2018.
