LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped today to its lowest amount since March 25, decreasing a half-cent to $3.563.
The average price has dropped 14 of the past 16 days, decreasing 3.6 cents, including eight-tenths of a cent Tuesday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.
The average price is 1.9 cents less than one week ago and 4.3 cents lower than one month ago but 23.2 more than one year ago. It has dropped 5.2 cents since the start of the year.
The Orange County average price dropped to its lowest amount since March 24, decreasing three-tenths of a cent to $3.508. It has decreased 13 of the past 16 days, dropping 3.8 cents, including a half-cent on Tuesday.
The Orange County average price is 2.1 cents less than one week ago and 4.7 cents lower than one month ago but 21 cents higher than a year ago. It has dropped 4.7 cents since the start of the year.
The average price customarily declines in winter because of low demand, but this year's decrease is being offset by higher production costs for summer blend gasoline, according to Marie Montgomery, a public relations specialist with the Automobile Club of Southern California. Most Southern California gasoline stations will be required to sell summer blend gasoline on April 1.
