Still drinking tap water? You might want to reconsider... A new report claims that drinking water in over 43 U.S. cities has been tainted by toxic "forever chemicals".
According to the Environmental Working Group, the amount of perfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS, in drinking water is higher than previous estimates, creating a "toxic soup" that is "almost impossible to avoid".
“It’s nearly impossible to avoid contaminated drinking water from these chemicals,” David Andrews, a senior scientist at Environmental Working Group and co-author of the report published Wednesday, said.
PFAS chemicals usually come from sources like Teflon, Scotch Guard, or the foam used in firefighting. Some types of PFAS have even been linked to cancer, liver damage, and lower fertility rates.
"The results confirm that the number of Americans exposed to PFAS from contaminated tap water has been dramatically underestimated by previous studies, both from the Environmental Protection Agency and EWG’s own research," the report said.
