Rapper Draws Backlash for Tossing Cash from SUV on Skid Row

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A local rapper says it was “the season of giving,” but a video of Blueface standing atop an SUV in the downtown Los Angeles skid row area and tossing money into the air as the homeless and others scrambled to grab the floating bills is generating plenty of debate.

Blueface, 22, posted the video Monday afternoon, showing him standing on the SUV in front of the Emmanuel Baptist Rescue Mission, where lines of tents of homeless people can be seen along the sidewalks. As he tosses cash into the air, a crowd of people gathers around, struggling to catch the money as it falls.

It's unclear exactly what type of bills he was throwing or how much cash he threw to the crowd.

The rapper posted the video online with the simple tagline of “The season of giving.”

But many of the online reactions to the seemingly charitable gesture were decidedly negative.

“This isn't the proper way of giving,” one person wrote in response to the post.

“I'm sure there was a less degrading way to do this,” another wrote.

Still another wrote, “Throwing bills in the air, watching the needy scramble on the ground for them. #degrading.”

Some people offered praise for the cash giveaway, with one calling Blueface “a real champion,” another dubbing him a “legend” and another writing, “This is what it's all about.”

But the overall tenor of responses decried the giveaway as a degrading stunt, with many suggesting the rapper was treating the homeless like “strippers.”

“This is a disgusting way to flex on people that don't have money,” one person wrote in response. “Why not just pass them the money like human beings instead of throwing it everywhere and making them fight and pick it up off the ground. Class warfare is real. These people are human being(s) not animals.”
