Believe it or not, 2019 was the Year of Spam. The canned meat product posted record sales in 2019 for the fifth consecutive year.
Why is Spam selling so well, you ask?! Well yeah, it's a good source of protein, and can stay fresh for years inside the can... But the main reason is its growing popularity in Hawaii, where Spam is so popular that Waikiki hosts a 'Spam Jam Festival' every year!
According to Hormel Foods, Spam was introduced to consumers back in 1937. It was later brought around the world by American soldiers, who brought canned Spam as their lunches to war-torn countries.
