According to FOX 11, there are about 58,000 homeless people living in Los Angeles County, and over sixty percent of them are mentally ill. Thankfully, the county has a department for that! The Homeless Outreach & Mobile Engagement (HOME) team.
“We can’t solve 58,000 homeless, but we are working with those individuals who have been sitting on these bus corners for forever,” said Anthony Ruffin, a member of the HOME team.
They even invited FOX 11 along for a day, to see exactly what they see:
“The system, as it stands right now, is broken,” LA county supervisor Kathryn Barger said.
