While emergency crews have made limited progress in fighting dozens of other fires currently burning in California, they were able to nip one that started Wednesday in the bud!
The new fire (coined the Jake Fire), broke out in Santa Clarita, initially spreading out over nine acres as it burned uphill. Students at Michael McGrath Elementary School and Master's College were promptly evacuated, as were several area residents, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Once the flames jumped one of the city's major thoroughfares, firefighters called in the big guns: airtankers. They made several water drops on the blaze, effectively halting its forward motion, a department rep said.
By 3 p.m., it was all over -- evacuation orders were lifted and everyone got to return home, safe and sound!
